As usual winter chill prevailed over the students who stayed back for the winter coaching camp for the Board classes. The round of studious toil not only kept at bay the tensions that are natural to the Board class boys and girls but also generated sufficient heat in terms of a firm resolve to move ahead.

The winter vacation ended on 15th
January 2008 and the students reported back by 5 P.M. Now they are determined to put in their best in the Final examinations to be held in last week of Feb. 2008. It was really nice to observe studious silence in the corridors and class rooms. Pre-Board Examinations for classes X and XII ended on
2nd February and the result was discussed on 6th February 2008.

The set formation for the cricket season was held on 21st January followed by the regular games. The cricket house matches also started on 5th February 2008. The staff and students festival cricket match was played on 18th January 2008. Both the teams displayed good game. The students team led by Amrao Singh won the match. The detailed report of this match is somewhere else in this issue.

The 60th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour. The Headmaster unfurled the National Flag amid applause by the students and teachers. All the cadets and officers of the NCC participated. All pledged their allegiance to the National Flag and the democratic republic. Speeches were made and patriotic songs were sung. In the end the Headmaster commodore I. L Syal addressed the students and touched upon the importance of the day.

The appointment of under study prefects for the year 2008-09 was made on 18th January 2008. We wish them all the best and hope they will maintain the rich traditions of the school while performing their duties.

The school came alive with the visit of the great and distinguished alumni on 28th January 2008 including Lt. Gen Nandrajog, Vice Admiral
J.S Bedi, , Lt. Gen. T.K Sapru, Major Gen. Vinay Sharma, Major Gen. G.S Dhillon, Major Gen. Tiwari (retd.), Brig A.S Jassar, Brig. Deepak Vashisht, Brig. Anil Kagastha, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Mr. Suresh Mittal, Chief Engineer PWD S. Harinder Singh and many others. They were given a warm welcome at the school premises by the Headmaster before they had a cup of tea with the teaching staff and students. In the evening Jr. School
children kept all of them mesmerized with a
variety entertainment programme. They were all praise for our children for putting up a nice show. On 29th January 2008 they addressed the children in a special assembly conducted in their honour. The Headmaster welcomed them and thanked them formally for having visited the school and said that association of the alumni with the school is like that of umbilical cord which by no means can be disconnected. Lt. Gen Nandrajog while addressing the students said that his life had changed after passing out of PPS and the toughness both mentally and physically he had acquired in the school is still paying him. Recalling his school days Vice- Admiral J.S Bedi who was the second student admitted here gave all credit of his success to the school. Recalling the contribution of the old teachers like Mr. Cowell, Mr. Bhatnagar, Mr. Bhave etc. he called upon the faculty members to be role models of young impressionable minds. He also assured the school management all kinds of help he could render. Lt. Gen T.K Sapru in his speech, urged the students to have a goal in life and be prepared to take up the challenges. Showing their love and affection to the school, they also came with gifts for the school. Lt. Gen Nandrajog gifted a horse for the riders' club and the central command trophy with an insignia depicting a sun. Admiral Bedi presented a memento depicting a sailor and a model of the latest war cruise INS Talwar. Brigadiar A.S. Jassar was kind enough to have given rupees eleven thousand to the participants of the Variety Entertainment Programme put up by the Jr. school, as an incentive. The school owes its gratitute to Brig. A.S.Jassar for his kind gesture.

As per the tradition the most heartening event of the school was the farewell given by the Class XI to the students of ISC 2008. No doubt, it was very colourful evening where all the ' Bold and Beautiful' gathered in the school mess on 4th February 2008. All the students of Class XII were dressed in their best. The students performed a variety of items. Jasmeet Singh Chahal was
adjudged the Mr. PPS, Navreet Kaur Miss PPS and Karamjit Singh was adjudged Mr. Singh of the year. Sentimental speech was made by the outgoing Head boy Sumeet Singh Khhuddian. The

students, assured all types of help if needed and also urged them to focus on their future ventures.

Admission test for classes IV, V and VI was conducted on 10th February 2008. There were a large number of students who appeared for the same. We wish them good luck.

A cricket match between staff and the old nabhaites (Nabha Chapter) was played on 10th Feb. in the main fields which was won by the old nabhaites.

We were previleged to have one of the Board members Brig. Sukhjit Singh (Retd.) as a special guest in the school on 11th February.
A scion of the erstwhile Kapurthala state, he
addressed the boys & girls in the morning
assembly and motivated them to join the defence services by showing some slides / clips of the army life. Earlier the Headmaster Commodore
I.L. Syal welcomed him and presented him the school memento as a token of appreciation &
gratitude.

STAFF NEWS

Mr. Hitesh Gupta joined the school as
Music teacher in January this year. We welcome him to the PPS fraternity and wish him all the best.

Mr. Abhishek Kumar Singh, computer teacher in Sr. Wing, has become a proud father of a daughter on 1st February 08 .We pray for the good health of the newly born baby.

Who else can better understand than the blue hawks out of whom one of the boys (Gurpartap Singh of XII) did well in his NDA Exams and got through it and very soon he will be appearing for his SSB. This effort made by him is highly appreciable.We all came fresh from our winter holidays on 15 Jan. 08 .After a hectic term and terminal exams , the holidays were like a gush of fresh air, refilling us with energy and enthusiasm for the
coming days.10th and 12th classes have just finished up with Pre-Boards Exams on 2 Feb. The Beasians put in their best efforts in their Pre-Board Examinations.

A Boarding life has much more to give besides academics. From Beas house, four boys participated in the National School Games. Tegbir Singh and Ameet Singh Khuddian represented the IPSC team for Athlectics. Amandeep Kathuria and Amriteshwar Singh represented the IPSC team for hockey. This put another feather in the Beas house cap.

The Inter House Cricket matches started on 5th of Feb. Ameet Singh Khuddian, captain of Blue Hawks led the team. We all are sure that as usual this time also Blue Hawks are not going to lose any of the matches. We are always the winner.

FROM THE DEN OF  YELLOW TIGERS

Having come back from the winter break, all Jumnaites were very refreshed and excited to get busy in the school routine once again.

This session started with the class X and XII having their Pre- Board examinations .We wish them the all the best for their Board examinations and pray for their success. This term also
witnessed the festival cricket match between the staff and students. Paramveer Singh Virk and Navdeep Malwai were part of the students' team.

" There is a tide in the affairs of men.

Such is education and its value. So with this thought in mind each and every Jumnaite started to work hard to do well in the coming examinations. We know that we have to live upto the expectations of the house.

Anuj Sood (J -0806) made his house and school proud , as he has been selected to join the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasala (Pune) to undergo training and be commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army.

We wish him all the best and hope for many more will follow his foot steps. Finally, we wish every Jumnaite the very best of luck for his future endeavors.

FROM THE BOUQUET OF RED ROSE

After the vacation, the students with fresh minds reunited with their friends to take on another term. The passing out batch are enjoying their last moments in the school.

Two of our house boys namely Kamaljot Singh ( R-0492) & Khushwinder Singh ( R0486) represented the IPSC teams in National School

Games ( U- 19), held at New Delhi. Our house boys did a commendable job and the team reached
quarterfinal in the games. And this is only for the second time, the IPSC team achieved this feat.

On the other hand, the exams are round the corner and our house boys are burning their midnight oil to produce good results.. This is for the first time in the history of school that the three generals that the school has produced visited their alma-mater together. Many other old students also visited the school . In the honour of the distinguished school alumni our school riding team put up a good show under the captaincy
